Hip Thrusts Box Height

hope this is the right place to post!

i am having a bit of trouble finding out about the best height a hip thrust should be performed at…

i have been hip thrusting on a 15 inch step up box for a while but its sooo uncomfortable and not only that but i feel when i am locked out, my knees are higher than my shoulder position (if that makes any sense lol) which to me implies it may be too short?

upon researching i have found that 16 inches seems to be the best choice, however i cannot find ANYWHERE that sells a hip thrust box with a height of 16 inches?! i don’t know if i’m just being an idiot or what but i’m sure bret contras even states on his website this is what height his boxes are, yet when i looked they come in 12 or 14 inches high? am i missing something?

i am so confused and just want to speak to some people who hip thrust regularly and get your input on this please and maybe a recommendation on a box i can buy to perform a ‘perfect’ hip thrust.

thanks!

This probably doesn’t answer your question, but I’ve always just done them with my shoulders on a standard bench, and have had no issues with that. I think they’re always awkward to set up, no matter the height, though.

Not sure about inches-from-the-floor, but this would beat an uncomfortable box: a decline bench. From Coach Lee Boyce:

I use a boxing bag in our home gym, its had the straps taken off and stuffed tight so it can be used for carry’s, throws and BJJ groundwork. Seems to work pretty good and easy to set up on, but not as high as what your wanting.
