Tip: Make Healthy "Weight Gainer" Cookies

Protein researchers give these cookies to their test subjects to insure plenty of quality calories are eaten. Now you can make them too.

Dr. Peter Lemon, renowned protein researcher, had a problem. His human test subjects wouldn't comply with the higher protein, higher calorie diets he needed them to eat for the sake of his research. Some of these studies ran for months and Dr. Lemon needed to make it convenient for subjects to consume the right nutrients.

So he came up with the idea of no-bake protein cookies. Simply mix protein powder with uncooked oatmeal and natural nut butter, train hard and get big. It worked, and the test subjects finally made the gains expected.

Here's my own version of that recipe that's close to the original, but a lot tastier:

No-Bake Weight-Gainer Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 and 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats, uncooked
  • 3/4 cup (171 grams) natural peanut butter or nut butter of choice
  • 3 scoops (90 grams) Metabolic Drive® Chocolate
  • 1 cup unsweetened organic coconut flakes
  • 3/4 cup warm water

Directions

  1. Add oatmeal, protein powder, and coconut flakes to a bowl and whisk these dry ingredients together.
  2. Add nut butter and water. Mash it all together with your hands until everything is incorporated.
  3. Roll into balls roughly the size of golf balls, then flatten into cookie shapes. Option: Coat cookies in extra coconut flakes.
  4. Refrigerate.

Yield: About 13 cookies.

Got Time? Make This Fancier Version

  1. Toast your oatmeal first. Just toss your oats into a dry nonstick skillet. Cook for about 6 minutes over medium heat on your stovetop, stirring occasionally, until golden brown.
  2. Toast your coconut. Spread coconut evenly on a cookie sheet and bake for 7 to 8 minutes at 350 degree Fahrenheit until light brown. Toss about halfway through cooking for even browning.
