The Virtual Bench Press Seminar
by Jim Wendler -
The first rule of fixing your bench press is admitting your bench sucks. The second rule is that you must read this article and learn about the set-up, grip, ascent, and descent.

Lee Boyce:
@LarryH: Indeed that's a tough one. You'll have to be more specific regarding the site of the pinch..
Lee Boyce:
@BX2VA: It's definitely a worthy argument (the no max strength horizontal press work). One can definitely state why it can benefit a lifter! I agree that submaximal loads and manipulation of rest interval can make the chest larger, so why not play it safe and train the chest in this way?
LarryH:
This article came at a good time since I'm fighting a clicky right shoulder, I feel a pinch under my right scap and have a hard time depressing the scap, that's what my physical therapist is seeing. Do you think standing overhead dumbbell pressing can help put me back into position? I was doing a lot of barbell OH pressing and machine pressing, and then the supraspinatus pain came on. I know its hard to diagnose over the internet but let me have your best shot Lee. Thanks.
BX2VA:
@JRTB, that is a lot of weight!! I can't imagine having to put that vest on. I also have a problem feeling my pushups when I do very low reps. They just feel awkward, but maybe they are still working.
BX2VA:
Lee, you've got me thinking now. So are you saying that it may not be necessary to train for max strength in horizontal pushes? I just assumed that someone training for strength was obligated to train all planes. I aslo don't want a bird chest, but I can train hypertrophy to handle that and not worry about max strength, I guess.
Lee Boyce:
@JRT6: Fantastic - should do just the trick!
