Conditioning is a Sham
by Mark Rippetoe -
In almost any circumstance, except marathon running, you're better off training strength than you are training conditioning.

Dan Blewett:
@domcib - wrists are tough, but generally we find that keeping it straight solves some, but not all, problems. So for those who can't do floor push ups, they can usually do them on a dumbbell or benching like you found - the wrist remains straight. For everything else, the wrist moves dynamically so it's hit or miss. I'd say get real good at the cross-arm front squat and rest it from everything else that bothers it. Continued reaggravation will prevent it from healing

Sorry but I really don't agree with this - if you are thin, eat more. Other than that, everything that applies to others applies to you. Heavy training will work for anyone, overuse of drop sets and intensity techniques will not. Any program that gets a beginner to perform regular heavy lifts and eat WILL WORK, even for a skinny "ectomorph".
Musclecoach:
The first remark was on a video from my youtube channel. I co-own a gym in Norway and the video was for a circuit we ue for people over 60. There are 100 other videos you can choose from.
Musclecoach:
The big question in a discussion such as this is: Are the abdominal muscle any different that any other muscle? Do they bend the spine and stabilize it. If they were not ment to work from full extension then why does the spine go back that far?
Musclecoach:
As for the stability issues that have been so "in" lately. Of course you need some stability, but if tht was the major issue the abs would not be designed the way they are. Try wrapping tape around you entire midsection "duplicating stability" and see how functional you are. It is really just another issue that has been overplayed. Big time
Musclecoach:
To answer some of the comments on the article. Yes, I am the same old guy from Ironman, Fred Koch. living in Norway for 15 years. Yes, I have trained hundred of top Olympic athletes with this method and never had an issue. Fred Hatfield first invented the ab bench over 20 years ago. Sold thousands of them. Ever major euipment company makes an ab machine of some sort. The ab mat is a simple, inexpensive version. see fredkoch.com or ab mat original on facebook.
