by Mark Rippetoe -
In almost any circumstance, except marathon running, you're better off training strength than you are training conditioning.

BX2VA:
2-I have heard of some guys that only do overhead pressing and no benching. Can one maintain muscle balance with this approach? Maybe light horizontal pressing and heavy vertical pressing? Thanks for your time!
BX2VA:
Lee, nice article. 1-Any suggestions for training the horizontal push for strength without doing bench presses? I know pushups can be done, but it's hard to load all that weight on the body as one gets really strong.
R Fisher:

Thanks for the article. I'm a big fan of the push press, and do love a good shoulder day. Regarding the barbell press, whats your opinion on behind the neck pressing?
Wil Fleming:
@MikeTheBear: Spot on! Really good explanation.
MikeTheBear:
I put "easy" in quotes because obviously you need to get the correct bar path and the correct timing of the pull under. It took me a long time to get the bad habits worked out.
