TOMatoPASTE:
... of these, removing exaggerated arch from my squats and deads has been a recent development. Doing so has allowed me to better activate the core and has also allowed me to realise a serious twisting force that's likely causing the injuries. I think more lifters/coaches need to be aware of those with very mobile spines. I've had several clients improve through this alteration as well! Cheers
TOMatoPASTE:
Love the APPROACH to building the squat (the frameworks for learning really do need more attention!) - well done for introducing a concise resource for everyone to work from. However, I've got to add myself to the back arch issues group. I'm glad it's already become such a great discussion. I've been dealing with persistent and debilitating back injuries for a long time now, and my personal cues and philosophies have changed a lot along the way....
jtbrown0511:
Thanks CS. I think everyone needs animal protein and she is trying to make the argument that she gets enough protein through plant and dairy sources. I think everyone needs animal protein and can't be your healthiest unless you have it.
KennyCrox:
cueing to drive you legs through the floor as a means of breaking the weight off the floor is incorrect. Research (McLaughlin) has demonstrated that quad drive is dominate...but NOT a Conventional Deadlifter. This misconception continues to be perpetuated. Kenny Croxdale
KennyCrox:
The deadlift is not a leg press. "It may help to think of the start of the pull as a standing leg press" is incorrect for a Conventional Deadlifters. Research (Dr Tom McLaughlin/PhD Exercise Biomechanics/Former Powerlfiter) shows that the lower back break the weight off the floor. Reserach by Bret Contreras has demonstrated that in the bottom position, the hamstrings are instrumental in moving the weight. Since the leg press is a quad dominate movement,
Chris Shugart:
@jtbrown: Very difficult to get everything you need from a vegetarian diet without a lot of supplementation. Also, if she's a "healthy" vegetarian (as opposed to what I call a Twinkie vegetarian), too much fiber can also cause more problems than adequate fiber intake fixes. But digestive issues are complex, so it's very tough to guess the causes because there are so many varied causes. Make sure she's getting iron and saturated fat (coconut oil) as well.
