36 Yr Old Dude. Serious Lifestyle Changes

Still a work in process, but I've been focusing on making major lifestyle changes the past 18 months. Quit pain meds, alcohol, caffeine, tobacco, and changed poor eating habits. I started workout and feel like I've hit my stride in the last few months.

I feel like a new man in every aspect of my life. It's interesting to see how becoming physically more healthy impacts your mental health and almost everything that surrounds you. My after picture is a bit old, I need to take an updated one. I kind of found a new motivation from within versus taking pictures on a monthly basis and doing comparisons...

I've been focused on building muscle the past few months and have gotten on better workout plan (also nice to discover the truth in "less is more" from a workout standpoint).

I just want to increase overall strength for my size. Right now maxing bench at 315 X 5, deadlift 450 X 3, and squat 500 x 5. I'm really into military, hence, while maintaining this weight I want to complete half-marathons at an airborne shuffle pace - 9 min miles. At any rate, please rate and give any advice you can dish out. I'm a law student right now.

I get about a gram of protein per pound of bodyweight. I occasionally do Crossfit to stay in military shape. I stick to compound movements, and cycle training regimens between strength training, and traditional bodybuilding. To be clear, I mean the rep schemes change in response to my goals.

I drink protein, take NO Shotgun, and tribulus from time to time.

I do several short runs a week. During a week I would do at least one long run 7 - 9 miles. On occasion I'll do a ruckmarch with 50 - 60 pounds in my pack and walk it out up hills for several miles. I usually just get a feel for it you know. I can't help but feel like I should be more quantitative about how things are done, or more scientific.

I can speak at length if necessary.

Lean Bulk Progress [Photo]

height 5"8'
weight 170 pounds
bodyfat - not measured
deadlift 430 pounds
bench press 335 pounds
push press 235 pounds
chin ups bw + 150 pounds
squat - unknown due to injury

Sup guys, how do you reckon I am doing so far? I have dropped squats due to a hip flexor injury for the past 1 & 1/2 year, so tbh legs are not up to par.
Do you think I should try to bulk up to 180-185 for the next few months and then cut or try to keep getting stronger while maintaining my current weight ( the latter strategy is what I have used for the most part of my training)? I have definitely not plateaued on any of my lifts tbh but strength gains do come kind of slow.
Any weak areas I should focus on?

I don't really watch my diet at this point but I plan on embarking on a cut later as summer approaches. We 'll see how it goes. I don't really have any aspiration for competitions, just doing it recreationally.
ive been going at it for 8 years before an injury, now ive been at it since december. i eat lots of beans and grains and veggies and bread and pasta yada yada and i have cut out meat copletely. For the past 2 months, I've been adding a little more veges, like tomatoes and lettuce in my diet for the vitamins and minerals.
I want to get a nice aesthetic physique and also look beast, any comments or critiques are appreciated.
A few months later, I challenged a 6'3" friend over two years older than me to a bare-knuckle boxing match -- I lost miserably and my shoulder and back were worse than ever. So then I decided to add pull ups. And it has just kinda progressed from there. Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

Currently I am 193lbs at 3500 cals (50% carbs, 20-25% fat, 25-30% protein).

Last gaining phase I hit a peak of 218lbs then cut down to 166lbs (as seen in these pictures) it was a rough process lol (52lbs!!!). I am trying to work on chest and shoulder developement and of course overall size, but hey Im natty and only 23 so Im doing my best. I would love some feedback as I am trying for an IFPA pro card again in 2014. Let me know what you think.

Also I have uploaded a video of myself posing on youtube, I would put it on this post but the vid is too large, so if you want to head over to youtube to watch that my channel name is OrganicGains and its my only video (I just uploaded that a few mins ago so it may not be up until later today)

14 Month Transformation

Start off with: Hi everyone my name is Karl, I'm 27 years old. I'm 5'7.5 and i was 37% body fat at 238 lbs.. I was pretty skinny till about 17 i would say.. When i got my licenses i was always getting fast food.. one point in my life i was drinking a lot 19-22... then long term gf break up got depressed.. When i met the girl that I'm with now who is my wife. I was 200lbs when i met her.. 4 years in i got up to 240..

Started getting real shaky all the time. Got asthma and back problems.. Finally i went to the doctor and got some blood tests done.. Not good at all. most levels were in the danger zone and my doctor told me i was heading to a heart attach by the time i was in my 30's. That was a huge wake up call.

My son was born 9-10-11 and I made him a promise to get into shape and be healthy. So when 1-1-12 rolled i made a New Years Resolution. I quite cold turkey on all the fast food i ate and soda i drank. I had a friend who was a personal trainer and he took me on. I trained with him for 3 months. Took in all the info i possible could. Then i went on my own.

5 months after the training had begun, i went back to the doctor and had the blood test again. Results were amazing. My doctor couldn't believe the change in my levels. Everything was perfect spot on.

It's now been a 1yr and 2 months and I'm still at it. It's now become a lifestyle for me. I want my boy growing up to a healthy active dad. He was my inspiration to all of this. I'm at 14% body fat now.

Please Estimate My BF

Hi guys,

I know I have a long way to go, I am aware of the things that need to be improved. Also, I lift for pure recreation, and I am not too ambitious. I am currently at 80 kg, Im 179 cm tall. My ideal built would be like 3-5 kg more at 6% bf.

What would be my bf according to this couple of photos (excluding the pic in blue bathers coz it was taken a while ago)?

In this pic where im in blue bathers (it was a couple of months ago, and my bf is curently higher-see other two pics), my bf was estimated at 8.1%. It was done by calippers at Shredded strength institute (Poliquins institute). However ppl that have been lifting for yrs say that it was higher than that, so im not sure what to believe anymore.

Before

Started lifting about a year ago, screwed around for three or four months, and then started powerlifting and actually being productive. Got up to 165 (from a starting weight of about 120) but then decided to train for a triathlon and lost 15 pounds. Right now I'm back to lifting and my weight is back up to 157. My first PL meet will be June 9th. Not concerned about my physique/aesthetics, but figured I'd share pics just because I think its interesting how much my body has changed. Still don't look like I lift, but that's totally okay by me as long as I'm getting stronger. Btw I'm 5'6 (inb4 manlet status).

From Crossfit to Powerbuilding-ish

I know I don't have many posts, so hopefully that isn't a point for unprovoked flaming. Curious to see where my strong points are and what I should work on.
Began strength training about 2.5 years ago, switched to crossfit a year and a half ago to throw some variety into the mix. I feel like it helped me a lot with skill development and basic kinesthetic awareness, but the competitive side of it burned me out.

Now I've gotten back into the Bodybuilding/Powerlifting training regimen (Currently following 5/3/1 BBB with assistance skewed towards hypertrophy) to see how far I can get before I burn myself out.

Current diet: Approx 3000-4500 calories a day. Typical college kid diet - pizza, burgers, meat meat meat, nuts and fruits whenever I get a hold of them.

Current lifts:
505 dead
420 back squat
355 front squat
290 bench
190 overhead press

Current bodyweight - Between 205-209 depending on water weight.

Want to Compete in a Year

Hello everyone. I've been reading this site for ages, made a few posts lately and decided to see if I can get some feedback. Been training nearly a decade, not always for size in fact mostly for strength for the most recent handful of years, and I think I'd like to compete in some kind of physique competition soon.

I stand about 5'8, I currently weigh about 171, which is a little lighter and maybe 2% BF points lower than what I typically walk around at. I just did a not so serious diet in preparation for a vacation, and this is when I took these pictures which may explain the poor quality. I have no full mirror at home and decided to make this thread on a while I was still a little light and had a tan.

I think I have most of the pertinent pics, apologies if not.

I feel I have some things in may favor such as big delts, solid legs and back, and a small waist but I believe I need some work in a few areas, most notably chest size and hamstring seperation, although I havent a good shot of hamstrings to provide. Also my lats have a hard time showing from the front unless im not posing right.

I'd like to gain about a solid 10 lbs before I compete, but would appreciate any advice.

I wont get into specific training details at the moment, but I will say I lift very heavy, max squats and deadlifts 2x per week with big presses and heavy pulls. This volume may actually attribute to why I am not larger than I am now.

ps sorry for bad lighting in some of these

[pics]Overdeveloped Obliques. What to Do?

Hey, I need your advice.

I always had very developed obliques (that gives me a nice adonis belt and I like it ), but the last 5 months I was squatting 3 times per week so that made my obliques probably more overdeveloped(which I like it but I don't want them to grow more) . Sometimes when I have eaten alot and I become bloated it's like I have some lean lovehandles .

You can see the picture above

So, my question is what exercises I must avoid or at least limit so that my obliques stay where they are? I am sure squats is one of them that's why I am doing them 1x/week now.

Hi guys, I posted on here before, with this video which is me 6 months ago when I was 172lbs
<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/a7_pby_zYD4?hl=en&fs=1&rel=0&modestbranding=1"type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="opaque" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="390">

So now I am posting to show some progress. I am now 181 lbs, so 9 pounds heavier. I am training for powerlifting, my bench is at 325, deadlift 495 x 6, squat best set was 405 x 10 ATG without a belt. Hence the imbalance between legs and upper body lmao.

My first thoughts are that from a BB perspective, cons are my upper chest is lacking. My chest width is pretty terrible despite being fairly thick. And overall my upper body is just a bit small relative to my legs.

Pros my legs, I have a small waist, around 28-29 inches. I think my biceps are naturally pretty solid. I think with time, I can build a lot of mass on my 5'7" frame.

I want advice from those who are better built than me so I can improve my physical condition and compete in body building competitions.

I'm 6'2 206lbs.

My diet consists mostly of veggie, pasturized egg whites, and fruit smoothies daily, as well as packed sandwiches. I also do enjoy eating out on occassion.

My suppliments include Creatine, and Protein Powder, 5htp, Vitamin K, Multi-viti, B-complex, Fish Oil, and Vyvanse for ADD

I have never used or plan to use testosterone suppliments.

My workout schedule is typically 5-6/7 days a week 6:00am-8:00am. With outdoor running on the off days.

Although I love hearing good things, I could most use the negatives.

I would appreciate your opinion. <3
