All in a Day's Work
An Interview with porn star Dillon Day
by Ron Harris
Last October, T-mag ran the now-infamous "Dasha Does T-mag," a candid interview with adult film star Dasha. The response was overwhelming. Some readers were furiously offended while some thought it was the height of entertainment. Others groused that such a piece had no business in a magazine devoted to the improvement of the human body. Get ready for the controversy to be stirred up again, because this time we're talking to Mr. Dasha, porn star Dillon Day.
In less than four years, the 31-year-old Dillon has appeared in over 800 films, among them Underworld, Dark Angels, and Adrenaline. Nicknamed "the pit bull of porn" for his ferocious sexual style, he's also garnered such industry awards as 2001 Best New Stud of the Year, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor. Perhaps more noteworthy is his renowned gift as an ejaculator, the likes of which hasn't been seen since the legendary Peter North. Along with actors Evan Stone and Dale DeBone, Dillon is one of the top three male stars in adult film today and is still gaining in popularity.
For those who wish to remain pure and don't care to read anything prurient, I've divided the interview neatly into two sections. The first concerns Dillon's workout and nutrition regimen (he's a very muscular 200-pounder with an admirable physique who's a former competitive NPC bodybuilder, no less). Should you wish to continue on and hear about his life in the adult film industry in the section after that, you're certainly welcome.
Don't say we didn't warn you, though. I asked every question that "popped" into my twisted little brain. After all, who among us hasn't fantasized about doing what this man is paid to do?
Part 1
Dillon Day
One of Adult Film's Best-built Leading Men
T: Were you an athletic kid?
D: Definitely. I lettered in every sport my high school had, even if it was only for one season. I was a 4-time State Champion in wrestling in the 115-pound class for the first two years, then 125, and 145 by senior year. I was a two-time state champion in BMX racing, then third in the nation at motocross. I also lettered in golf, tennis, and soccer. I was an All-State receiver in high school football for two years, then went on to play for Ohio State. Unfortunately, I tore my medial meniscus in my freshman year and that was the end of football for me.
T: What was the first image of a muscular body you recall that inspired you? Any role models?
D: Like most guys, it was Arnold. I remember seeing The Terminator and just going crazy; wanting to lift weights and look like him. He was the man back then and he still is today. I just saw him at a hair salon last week and he's the coolest guy you'll ever meet. Anyhow, I started training at home with the plastic DP weights, but I never did a thing for my legs. To this day I still hate training legs, but it has to be done.
T: How did you first start getting more serious about training?
D: Ironically, it wasn't until after my knee injury forced me to start training legs just for physical therapy. All the sports had sucked so much energy out of me that I had never really gotten much results, as far as getting any bigger. Since I wasn't playing football anymore, I got more engrossed with the lifting and how my body was changing. I started training with a guy named Matt Dimmel at the World Gym in Worthington, Ohio, who got me into powerlifting.
At one time I had the 162-pound record for the bench press at 365 pounds. But my frame was never meant for super heavy weights. My joints started hurting a lot. That's when I decided to give bodybuilding a try. I was trained by Bob Lorimer, Jim Lorimer's son (co-promoter of the Arnold Classic Weekend), and got up to 230 pounds at 8% bodyfat (note: Dillon is 5-10). Then I would diet down to 176 1/2 to make middleweight for the Ohio. In '92 I took third, then I came back in '93 and won it.
T: That's a show that guys like Mike Francois, David Dearth, and Dean Caputo had won.
D: Right. My whole thing was that I was never satisfied with how ripped I got, even though I was competing at 3% body fat. Plus I knew I was going to have to put on a lot more size to do well in bodybuilding. Most of the other middleweights were a half foot shorter. I used steroids a little bit, but I was never prepared to use the high dosages you need to get freaky huge. I got burnt out on it. You could say I woke up early and realized that turning pro or whatever wasn't really in the cards for me. I stay about 200 pounds now at 8-9%.

T: Where did you get most of your information in your early years?
D: I read every book and magazine I could get my hands on, and I'm sure it saved me from making a lot of mistakes.
T: What type of a split do you follow these days?
D: I don't train as religiously as I used to. I would literally be in the gym seven days a week back in my bodybuilding days. Now it's three days a week with weights, and cardio whenever I can fit it into my schedule. Dasha and I have a Stairmaster at home, too, that we use. As far as the weights, usually on Monday my training partner and I will do chest, arms, and forearms. Wednesday is back and shoulders, and Friday is the dreaded leg day.
He and I are pretty competitive with each other. Last week I did 325 on the bench for five, and he was pissed because he only got three. He's a big Samoan dude. The club Dasha and I belong to is a really nice health club with racquetball and all the amenities. I would be fine with training at a Gold's or a World's, or even some hardcore pit like the Westside Barbell Club, but she would just get harassed non-stop at a place like that. Our club is pretty upscale, and the members are older. It's nice to be one of the top physiques there.
T: Do the other members know what you guys do for a living?
D: Yeah, and everybody's cool about it. They know we're there to work out, not to socialize.
T: How is your development regarded in the adult film industry? Do the actresses appreciate it?
D: It's a big plus to be well-built when there are so many guys that are either skinny potheads or flabby and out of shape. I was in New Sensations [an adult book store] the other day picking up a check when these three young girls were there, smiling and giggling. They're always bringing in these teenage girls for the amateur series, new ones all the time. And they were all totally hot. One says, "You're Dillon Day, I've seen all your movies!" Then someone comes out and introduces them to me, and tells me they only do girl-girl scenes. The cutest one says, "I'll work with Dillon, though." We booked it right there for a scene this week. So being handsome and in shape pays off in this business. If actresses have any say in who they work with, those are the guys they'll choose.
T: What is your eating like?
D: My main priority is trying to pack in 300 grams of protein a day. That's important for a good pop. (note: I quickly figured out that this is porn industry slang for ejaculating or ejaculation.) Breakfast is usually oatmeal with some egg whites mixed in, and a protein shake. I eat three or four solid meals a day, and two or three shakes or bars. I'll take the bars with me on set when I know I won't be able to make my shakes. The solid meals are made up mostly of boneless, skinless chicken breasts, and broccoli. My big treat is Rice-A-Roni; mixing that up with a lot of chicken. I try not to eat before a scene because my stomach tends to get bloated, and I feel lethargic. My carbs are pretty much all rice and potatoes.
T: Do you use supplements?
D: Aside from the MRP's and protein bars, just multivitamins. I tried some of that Tribex-500 you guys sent me, and that stuff gave me a little kick.
T: Are you discouraged from getting any larger, or is that even a concern when producers are casting for their films?
D: No, as long as I can still perform and get the job done, they don't care. Being in great shape is a matter of pride with me. I used to watch all these skinny bastards in 80's porn and say to myself, "Come on!" They looked pathetic to me. You shouldn't be watching some guy fucking this awesome girl and thinking, "What a wimp."
T: What would you say are the top few things you've learned about training and nutrition that you wish you had known at the very beginning?
D: Let's see. Taking in 50,000 calories a day is not crucial to gaining muscle. I used to drink this 10,000 calorie weight-gain shake that Twinlab made
T: Gainer's Fuel 10,000, who could forget. I think we all got fat on that.
D: Yeah, and it gave me the most horrid gas. If you had stuck a tube up my ass, it could have powered a truck. Heavier weights are not always better. I used to throw around the most weight possible, and my form sucked. That led to injury quickly. I also learned that you don't have to spend 2-3 hours in the gym every day to grow. My workouts now are sometimes 35-40 minutes, at the longest a little over an hour. I don't waste time talking for 20 minutes between sets. You don't need 10-20 sets per bodypart, either. I train in HIT style for a couple cycles during the year and always get good results. You just can't stay on it all the time.
Part 2
Dillon Day
The Pitbull of Porn
T: Were you a fan of porn growing up? Did you have any favorite actors or actresses?
D: I loved porno movies. I was a huge fan of Ginger Lynn, and almost got to work with her when she made her comeback recently. I loved Angela Summers, this cute, bubble-gum chewing slutty cheerleader type with big breasts. Amber Lynn and Vicki Charm were great, too. As far as the guys, there was only one man I wanted to be, and that was Peter North. All the other guys at that time were just goofballs. Peter was in great shape, he worked with the hottest actresses, and he blew these huge loads. He was the fucking man.
T: When did you know you shared his unique talent?
D: I had always been gifted like that. Just lucky, I suppose. In one of my first movies, I fired this load that went on forever. The first part of it went clear over the girl's head and hit a lighting rig. It almost hit one of the guys on the crew. They measured that at six feet. The rest of it just drenched the girl's hair and face, so you almost couldn't see any skin or hair. Then the camera turns to my face and I said, "Peter who?"
T: Did he ever see that?
D: Yeah, and he told me that was a pretty ballsy thing to say. He hired me for a few movies he was producing at the time. We're really good friends still.
T: How do you keep from coming too soon?
D: It's not easy. I'm usually fighting for the whole hour to hour and a half to not pop. The longest scene I ever shot took three hours. Wait, no, there was a magazine shoot out in the desert that took us seven hours in the hot sun. I ended up sunburned, almost purple. My dick, too, of course.
T: Ouch. Were you the stud of your high school, sleeping with the entire cheerleading squad?
D: Not really. I was kind of a nerd as far as girls. I had two long-time girlfriends all four years. All I really cared about was sports. Not school, not even girls so much, but sports. I wanted to be the best at whatever I played, and I would do whatever that took. I'm still that way. I love watching Biography on A&E and learning about what successful people from all walks of life did to get there; that intense drive to succeed.
T: Did you dream of being an adult film actor, or did you have other plans before that?
D: I went to college and earned three degrees, but the whole time I wanted to be a porn actor. I knew I could be one of the best, and I had a sex drive that was just out of control. At twenty I did an amateur video in Ohio, then finally I made the big move at 24 and moved out to L.A. to really go for it.
T: How did you break into the porn industry?
D: There was a modeling and talent agency called Pretty Girls International who I had sent my pictures to. They said they didn't need any guys at the time, but they would keep me on file. So I went to their offices and hung out all day for a week, which bugged the shit out of them. Finally Reb Sawitz comes out to the reception area and offered me 100 bucks to do a scene, which was nothing. I make 600 bucks a scene now. Plus I had a pretty cushy job as an assistant to a Hollywood producer that paid well, but this [porn] was my dream. "Oh yeah," he tells me, "it's with a fat girl." Like I said, this was my dream, so there was never any hesitation. She was only a little chubby, it turned out, but very pretty.
I did seven movies with PGI, then I moved back to Ohio because I thought I was homesick. Two years later, I said, "What the hell am I doing back in Ohio?" and went back to L.A. for good. A friend of mine and I decided to produce our own porno and star in it. It was called Cybergasm, and actually even had special effects like morphing. The Playboy Channel picked it up. Reb introduced me to P.T. over at Vivid Video, and my career just took off from there.
T: Tell me a little bit about your first scene ever.
D: That was the amateur thing back in Ohio. It was a lot more loose and laid-back than the stuff I do now, where they need to get all these positions and in a certain order. They just told me to fuck the shit out of this girl for about an hour. It was with this hot stripper from Columbus I knew and had always wanted to fuck. I popped three times in that one scene. I would just pop all over her, put it back in, and keep going until I popped again and again. You could say I was really excited. I got paid 300 bucks to fuck this hot girl, and I was in heaven.
T: Can you still come more than once in a single session?
D: Yeah, all the time. Sometimes I have to take a breather for a couple minutes, but I don't get soft or anything.
T: What's your opinion of the abusive type of behavior toward women, the type that Rocco Saffredi displays?
D: That's his thing, and obviously there is a niche for it. I don't get off on that. I just like a good hard fuck. I treat all the women with respect, and always discuss what she prefers before a scene.
T: Have you ever had a woman ask for that kind of treatment?
D: Yeah, one time I was doing this girl doggy-style in a scene and she asks me to punch her. I said, "Punch you? What the hell for?" So I gave her a little tap in the back, and she says, "You call that a punch? Hit me, you fucking wimp!" So I hit her pretty hard right between the shoulder blades, and she has this intense orgasm. Then she asked me to strangle her. I said no way. People get killed that way by accident. You don't know when you're doing it too hard until it's too late.
T: Why are there so many different female stars, yet relatively few male stars in comparison?
D: Basically it's because nobody's really watching the guy. You're just a hired dick, a piece of meat. I accept that. Guys want to see new beautiful girls all the time. They see the same girl get fucked in a bunch of movies, and then they get tired of her. Most girls usually only have about a 5-7 year life span in the biz. A guy, if he gets in young enough, can work for 30 or 40 years. Ron Jeremy has been around over 30 years now. As long as you can keep getting the job done, they'll keep using you. I can work until I'm 60. There's a video line out called "Old dicks and young chicks," with all these old guys nailing hot little 18-year-olds.
T: Sounds better than shuffleboard. Which pays better, straight or gay porn?
D: Gay, and I'm not sure why. I guess it's similar to why the women get more than the men. Every guy wants to be in porno, but they have to entice the girls with more money. Not every guy wants to do gay porno. I have nothing against gays, but it's just not my cup of tea.
T: Are any of the men who do gay porn actually 100% heterosexual?
D: Yes. I've been offered a lot of money, like ten thousand for a scene, but I'm not interested.
T: Do you use Viagra? How prevalent is its use in adult film today?
D: I don't. The day I need it is when it's time for me to bow out of this business for good. I've saved everything I've made and invested wisely, so I'd be just fine retiring. All I've allowed myself is my Harley, my Nissan Xterra, and a 300 ZX. Do other guys use it? I hear things, but I never really ask. It's none of my concern.
T: With Viagra, why do you think we haven't seen a male star doing a gang bang video where he nails 500 women in a day?
D: Your dick would be too sore, for one thing. After an hour or so of hard fucking, I'm ready to just pop and give it a rest. It's easier for a woman, because she just has to lie there and take it. But Vivid does a couple similar things right now, like "World's Luckiest Jock," and "World's Luckiest Doctor," where these contest winners get to fuck like ten or twenty of the Vivid girls.
T: Most of us idiots who watch porno sit back and say, "Shit, I could do that." Just how wrong are we? What are the qualifications?
D: There are three different categories to consider. First is looks. You can't be butt-ugly. I'm no Robert Redford, but I'm a good-looking guy. Second is performance. You have to be able to get hard when the camera is ready, and stay hard. Most guys who think they can do porno lose it right there. They get terrified or embarrassed with all the people on the set watching them. Most of them will either pop too soon or not be able to get hard. The third thing is acting ability. A lot of guys are good-looking and can fuck well, but they can't act their way out of a paper bag. I'm decent-looking, I can perform on cue, and I can act. Being able to do all three well sets you apart.
T: Are most fans you meet true admirers of your work, or madly consumed with envy?
D: I was at a convention, and Tara Reid, the girl from the American Pie movies, comes over with her boyfriend. Not Carson Daly, a newer guy. They were both fans, and especially the guy. He was like "Dude! You're awesome, you're the man! We watch your stuff all the time." On and on. That was really nice. And of course, I have some gay fans. Another thing I was surprised about was that a lot of guys who are in the closet rent my movies to watch with their wives or girlfriends. Their women have no idea that their man is really into me. Then they send letters and e-mails asking the directors to show more close-ups of my ass or something. But you know what? I appreciate all my fans. These are the people that buy and rent my movies and allow me to have this career.
T: How important is penis size in being a male porn star? Could a great-looking, well-built guy with a penis not much more than average survive, or is there a certain minimum standard?
D: It helps to be bigger than average. Sometimes you'll see guys with pretty small dicks breaking into the business by tagging along with their wives or girlfriends, and they use them as kind of a gonzo comic relief in the movies. But it can be pretty rough for them. I was on a set one time when one of these guys finally whips it out, and the director says, "Where's the rest of it?" Everybody busted out laughing and the guy felt like shit. In my opinion, it's better to be bigger than average, but not super important. The video boxes do tend to make celebrities out of the men with really big dicks.
T: Are actors competitive about penis size with each other?
D: No, it's really not an issue. We're more competitive about getting work and selling videos; the money end of it.
T: Where do you rate in that ranking system, leaning toward average or Dirk Diggler?
D: I'm about 8 1/2 inches, which is bigger than most guys in the industry. You have a couple guys bigger. My friend Julian is probably the biggest right now. He's 11 inches. I joke about it with him. They'll cast us in a threesome where we do a DP (double penetration) and I'll say, Jesus, he makes me look like I'm hung like a bump! Sometimes when the guys are that huge, they have trouble getting a full erection. Not enough blood supply, or something. They usually get about half hard and have to work with that.
T: Have you ever hurt a woman because you were too large for her?
D: No, the girls always seem to take it no problem. I do hurt Dasha sometimes. She loves sex with me and thinks my dick is beautiful, but sometimes she wishes it was just a little smaller.
T: Do the actors use any supplements or drugs to increase ejaculate volume?
D: The only thing I do is eat a banana before a scene, which seems to help, and make sure I eat plenty of protein. Other guys try all kinds of stuff, but I don't know what really works. I've always had really good pops. I used yohimbine years ago for weightlifting, and that helped a little, I think. I tried Horny Goat Weed a few months ago to see if it would help me recover between pops, but all that happened was that I found the pleasure too much to stand. I wanted to pop after like two minutes. I threw the rest of the bottle away. For someone as horny as me already, it was exactly what I didn't need.
T: Have you ever had to do a scene with a woman you weren't particularly attracted to?
D: At the level I'm at, I don't get the crack ho's. The women I work with are all attractive to some degree. But that doesn't mean I'm always attracted to them. Still, I always show them the same respect. That's very important to me.
T: How do you get aroused in a situation like that?
D: You know, I'm there for a paycheck, and my job is to perform. I can always find something sexy about them to focus on and get excited, whether it's a pretty face, great tits, a nice ass, whatever. But because of where I am in the industry, I get to choose which girls I work with for the most part. Most guys have no say in that.
T: Do you ever get tired of having sex with so many beautiful young women?
D: I'll tell you, when I first got into porno, it was the greatest thing in the world. I was getting paid to fuck all these gorgeous, incredibly sexy women. Then I met Dasha, my soul mate, my best friend in the world. Now it's a job. I go to work and do what I'm paid to do. I'm addicted to that green. I've sold cars, real estate, and done well, but it wasn't a quarter of what I make now. But like anything else, it was a lot more fun in the beginning than it is now.
T: Awww. . .
D: I don't expect anyone to feel sorry for me (laughs).
T: How many women would you say you have had sex with, if you could give a rough estimate?
D: I did pretty well in my private life before I met Dasha. I used to run a nightclub, and you know how the chicks there always want to fuck you
T: Uh, yeah, I guess
D: I've done about 800 scenes, so all together I'd say about a thousand. Wilt the Stilt still has us all beat.
T: What did you think of the movie Boogie Nights? How about as far as being a realistic portrayal of the industry, albeit over two decades ago?
D: It was a great movie, but I really can't comment on how accurate it was or wasn't because that was a different era. It's much more of a business now. I took it for what it was, a very well-made movie with some brilliant acting and directing.
T: Would you say that male actors have to work harder than the women, since you can't fake an erection or ejaculation?
D: Oh, the men, without a question. Dasha agrees completely. Spreading your legs and keeping a cock hard are two different things. Don't get me wrong, the women work very hard too, but it's just the nature of sex that the man has to work harder to perform well. A woman can just lie there and take it, a man simply can't.
T: How much of the screaming and moaning on the part of the women is genuine enjoyment?
D: I get asked that all the time, and I always say the same thing. I don't know, and I couldn't care less. I'm sure some of them are faking to an extent. If the ones I've worked with were, they sure fooled me. You have to remember that a lot of the women in this business love to fuck and really get into hardcore sex. They have multiple orgasms in every scene they do, that type.
![]() |
T: How do you and Dasha keep from getting jealous that you both have sex with other people? As a man, isn't your natural impulse to feel possessive of your woman?
D: It is a natural impulse for both of us to be jealous. We love each other. We stay away from each other's sets, and we never watch our movies together. We don't even discuss our work, honestly. She's under contract to Vivid Video, and only does 6-8 movies a year. I average 275 scenes a year. Neither one of us is thrilled about those numbers.
T: Do you ever worry that another actor might perform better with Dasha than you?
D: I try not to think about it. The good thing is that she only works with a list of five or six guys, and they're all friends of mine. I know they will always treat her with respect and aren't going to try to pick up on her or anything. I also work with most of these guys' wives and girlfriends, and they trust me to do the same. But of course it's still weird.
My buddy Dale was cast to do a movie with Dasha, and he called me up the night before. He said he didn't feel right about it and was thinking seriously of turning the job down. I told him he'd better go ahead and do it, and do a damned good job too or else I would be pissed. It's difficult, but this is what we do for a living. It's a business that can chew people up, use them, and then throw them away. Dasha and I are using the business to build a future together.
T: Have either of you ever come home and been too tired from "work" to make love to each other?
D: I am never too tired for sex with Dasha. She can't believe it sometimes when I'll come home after doing two scenes and still jump all over her. I love her and I love making love to her. At home it's different, because it's just us and there are no lights and cameras up my ass.
T: In your private life, are you two exclusive, or do you ever bring a third person into it?
D: We are totally monagamous.
T: Do you and Dasha ever plan on having children?
D: We do. As I think she mentioned in her T-mag interview, we're doing as much work as possible in porn right now to save up a small fortune. We're tight with our money, and have a plan to get out of adult film in a couple years and go into other fields like real estate development. There's a whole other world waiting for us once we're done with this. We plan on being regular business people with a nice little family.
T: Dillon, I appreciate your taking the time and being so honest.
D: It was my pleasure.
