Good News, Not-So Bad News

There's no point being coy or cute about this. Biotest is going to have to increase the prices on a few supplements.

First I want to tell you why we're doing it. Then I want to tell you what we're going to do to make it up to you.

As you probably know, food prices have gone up all over the country, especially those associated with dairy products and other corn-dependent foods.

This is happening because of an explosion in the demand for ethanol, a gasoline alternative that's being pushed by the President, automakers, and farmers as a way to reduce dependence on foreign oil.

Up to 20% of the corn crop is now being used to make ethanol, and the increased demand means the price of the corn farmers use to feed and fatten up cattle has increased substantially. They in turn have passed those price increases on to the consumer through increased prices on commodities like butter, cheese, and milk.

We're Bearing Most of the Burden

As you're well aware, the proteins Biotest uses in Metabolic Drive Complete, Low-Carb Metabolic Drive, Metabolic Drive protein bars, and Surge come from dairy sources and our costs have risen dramatically. In fact, our cost for a bottle of Metabolic Drive has gone up 50 to 60% in the last year.

That makes it impossible for us to continue to sell these products at our current prices.

Effective immediately, each of our protein powders — including Surge — will cost $32.99 each. That's roughly a 10% increase, which equates to three dollars per bottle.

Please know that we're still bearing the brunt of the price increase. In other words, three dollars does not come even close to covering our increased cost per container.

Additionally, Metabolic Drive protein bars will increase from $16.99 to $18.99 per box. Keep in mind that even at the new prices — about $1.58 per bar — it's still a great deal.

I'm a little reluctant to mention the following, but I think it needs to be pointed out. Most protein companies have already raised their prices accordingly. A scant few have not. I want you to know that the only way most of these companies can refrain from raising their prices is by monkeying around with the ingredients. To be specific, we know for a fact that some have simply replaced some of the protein with cheap, tasteless maltodextrin so they could keep their prices static.

In short, it's flat out dishonest.
