Doug643: Hello Dan, I mean when a coach cues their athletes to sit back on there heels or sit hips back, keep shins straight and widen their stance are you not limiting knee flexion and hence the use of the quadriceps. I understand your always using them, but with these instructions in my opinion you are implying to the athlete that the emphasis should be placed on the hips. So I guess you didn't say it directly.

Dan Blewett: @ Doug - I'm not sure what you mean. Nowhere in this article did I discuss taking the quads out of the movement, nor is that possible in any real sense.

Dan Blewett: @Tomato - yeah, it really depends on the mobility of the spine. Most clients I see are somewhat neutral, so they achieve a shallow to moderate arch when I cue them this way. I certainly don't want an immense arch like you're talking about. Thanks for the contribution.
